BEATING THE ODDS.

 Upclose with Enoch Kofi Boateng.

Nana Boateng, Entrepreneur

It has almost become a cliché among university graduates complaining about unemployment in Ghana. But that is not the case with Enoch Kofi Boateng (Nana Boateng), a member of  code57 Entrepreneurs and CEO of NaBoat Group of Companies. We were privileged to interview him on our Entrepreneurship Wing Online Platform and we discovered interesting revelations about his journey as an Entrepreneur. Have a good read.

P.K: Kindly tell us about who you are and what you do.....

NB: Basically, I am Enoch Kofi Boateng that's my real name...Along the line I switched to Nana Boateng that makes me feel like an African and a King😅

Nana Boateng is a Private Tutor with a demonstrated history of working in the teaching field. Holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Banking and Finance, from the University of Professional Studies. Currently the CEO of Naboat Groupe, Operations manager of TrainGh and Head of strategic planning for Vintage Africa.

P.K: Tell us about NaBoat Groupe and what it entails

NB: Naboat Groupe is a conglomerate of 5 business focusing on Agriculture, Real Estate, Technology, Fashion and Philanthropy.

The subsidiaries include Naboat Apparels,Naboat Farms Naboat School of Technology,Naboat City and Naboat Charity foundation.

P.K: Awesome ! Are all of these in operation .? And if yes how do u manage these subsidiaries ?

NB: Nope,we are laying the bricks one at a time...At the moment we have started Naboat Apparels and NabCreatives...As time goes on, NabCreatives will be coined under Naboat School of technology.

P.K: When did you start Naboat Apparels and Nabcreatives ?

NB: November 2018.

P.K: Tell us a bit more about NaBoat Apparels  and Nabcreatives ...and why u started them.

NB: NabCreatives....God bless Nana Twum, one great friend of mine. he introduced Photoshop to me and how is making money from simple designs. I developed interest for it and one thing that kept me moving was consistency.. I became so much interested and consistent to the extent that i don't feel comfortable if I haven't design a day. I kept learning new stuffs and practicing new things always.

Note: I was just introduced to the software but I made YouTube my tutor. I haven't regretted learning the skill of graphic design.

NaBoat Apparels.....the story behind this brand is interesting....

It has always been my dream of having a fashion brand. I saved some money and bought fabrics to a tailor friend to make nice shirts for me. I embroidered my brand name on the shirt and wore it to class one day. It caught people's attention and boom ! a started business.

That very day I had 3 people showed interest and the rest they say was history.

P.K: Looking at the time you started , you were still in school right .? How did it affect your academics as a student and at the same time an entrepreneur ...?

NB: Yes please...School birth the entrepreneurial mindset. It didn't really affect my academics. I was very strategic. I didn't get time to study because I  had to get things working and business running..so what I usually did was to join a Study group to learn.

Studying with the group did a lot of magic, I listened more and talked less.

NB: Awesome ! What 3 things have you learnt so far starting and running a business of your own ...

NB: Self confidence, Consistency

& Focus.

P.K: Starting a business while in school or waiting till you finish school ....Which according to your experience is better ..? And why ?

NB: Starting while in school is better...You get to meet so many people to support you. Guess what, there's a great market there too.

P.K: You are the CEO of your own company, How does it feel like being your own boss ...?

What are the pros and cons ....?

I feel there's a great task for me to achieve. It hasn't been an easy journey...staying up late into the nights, facing rejections, sometimes living on an empty pocket, loneliness etc.

I have also learnt some soft skills along line and have met new people as well.

P.K: From your experience ....would you advice a young aspiring entrepreneur planning to start a business to get a hands on experience with an established company first before starting his own ..? So he/she doesn't get surprised with the realities of running a business ....? Or u say it can be learned  in a book ...?

What's ur take ..?

NB: Reading a book and not practising what the book says is cos 90 (0)....it can be learnt in the book though but learning from someone is fine.

Let me use myself as an example.

I learnt design on YouTube but there were things I had to meet someone to teach me.

P.K: What are some of the realities or problems u would face when starting a business?

NB: Financial problems

You will fail so many times

People won't believe until you have started.

People won't support you until you have started.

You will face series of rejections

However, Believe in God, Believe in yourself, embrace consistency, Focus and always show results rather than saying.

P.K: What's the future for u as an entrepreneur ..?

NB: To inspire the world with my business.

P.K: Any book you'll recommend  on Entrepreneurship ..?

NB: Books by Dale Carnegie ( How to win friends and influence people)

Brain Tracy ( Psychology of selling & Eat that frog )

Robert kiyosaki ( Read all his books to learn more about money )

Napoleon hill ( Think and Grow rich) .

I believe you have learnt something from this interview...?
